Guernica: Symbolic Heart of Basque Country

On April 26, 1937, at the height of the Spanish Civil War, the defenseless Basque town of Guernica was leveled by an air raid. Most people know of Guernica from the mural that Picasso created to express the tragedy of that day. But the story of this proud city and region goes far beyond that.
