Monday Night Travel - Dresden

July 21: Dresden with Seema Prakash

6:00 p.m. PT / 9:00 p.m. ET | REGISTER

Dresden's bewitching Baroque architecture and phoenix-from-the-ashes history captured the heart of Seema Prakash when she first visited the city in 2009. She decided then and there to move from her native India to "Florence on the Elbe." Now a local guide, Seema joins us for a tour of Dresden starting in the beautifully reconstructed Old Town. After admiring the fairytale treasures of Zwinger Palace, we cross the river into edgy, proudly counter-cultural Neustadt. To round out our adventure, we daytrip to nearby Saxon Switzerland National Park to hike beneath towering sandstone cliffs.

July 28: Hut-to-Hut Hiking in the Alps with Sheri Goodwin

6:00 p.m. PT / 9:00 p.m. ET | REGISTER

Trade your rail pass for hiking boots — we're going trekking! Exploring the Alps on foot offers a slower-paced and deeply immersive look at the cultural wonders and jaw-dropping natural beauty of Europe’s most remote corners. With trekking guide Sheri Goodwin in the lead, we ramble from village to village on Austria’s moderate Lechweg trail, circumnavigate Europe’s tallest peak on the Tour du Mont Blanc, and walk from France to Switzerland on the challenging Haute Route. Along the way, Sheri demystifies the planning process, from reserving a bunk in mountain huts to building your training regimen.

August 4: Watch with Patricia Fannon – Verona, Padova, and Ravenna

6:00 p.m. PT / 9:00 p.m. ET | REGISTER

In Venice's shadow, Verona, Padova, and Ravenna offer much of the charm of their world-famous neighbor — and far fewer crowds. With guide Patricia Fannon in the lead, we revisit these great cities in Rick's 2014 TV episode, "Italy’s Verona, Padova, and Ravenna." We start in the spirited university town of Padova (Padua), home to Europe's first great anatomy theater. Then it's on to fair Verona, where we discover a wealth of Roman ruins, intimate enotecas, and one very romantic balcony. We cap our journey in Ravenna — the most western outpost of the Byzantine Empire — beneath its glittering mosaics.

August 11: A Portugal Road Trip with Lucas Peters

6:00 p.m. PT / 9:00 p.m. ET | REGISTER

Guidebook author and Monday Night Travel favorite, Lucas Peters, is back for a report on his family road trip around Portugal. We start our journey in Lagos, where we sail along the dramatic coastline by day and camp beachside by night. With Lucas at the wheel, we head north to Portugal’s world-class capital, Lisbon, and then to Costa Nova, a colorful fishing-village-turned-beach-resort. For our grand finale, we learn to make pastel de nata in Porto and soak up sweeping mountain vistas in Serra de São Mamede Natural Park. And we even get a glimpse of our viewers’ own summer adventures!
