Program 649: Bowen Island, BC; Arctic Wisdom; Warsaw

Listen in as a University of British Columbia professor describes the woodsy charm of Bowen Island, just offshore from Vancouver, and a nature photographer shares what he's learned from decades of working amid the often-surprising light of the Alaskan Arctic. Then hear how Poland's capital city has shaken off its difficult 20th-century history to become a vibrant 21st-century metropolis that's well worth exploring.

• Wade Davis is a professor of anthropology at the University of British Columbia, and lives on Bowen Island, BC. He also writes about his love for the country of Colombia in his recent book "Magdalena: River of Dreams."
• Steven Kazlowski created the photo book, "The Last Polar Bear." It includes essays from prominent nature writers, and earned him the Sierra Club’s 2008 Ansel Adams Award.
• Steven also works with an Inupiat guide from Barter Island to offer photography boat tours in ANWR waters and polar bear regions.  They expect to resume offering tours in 2022.   
• Cameron Hewitt is Rick's co-author on the Rick Steves Eastern Europe guidebook.
• Beata McCommas talks to the Rick Steves tour department about her work as a tour guide.
• Rick and his guests recommend the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.  
• The Chopin Boutique B&B in central Warsaw has hosted small house concerts of Chopin's music.
