Tangier

Artists, writers, and musicians have always loved Tangier. From the 1920s through the 1950s, Tangier was an "international city," too strategic to give to any one nation, and jointly governed by as many as nine different powers — and with a booming free-for-all atmosphere that attracted playboy millionaires, bon vivants, globe-trotting scoundrels, con artists, and expat romantics. Tangier enjoyed a cosmopolitan golden age that, in many ways, shaped the city visitors see today. In later decades, it earned a reputation as the "Tijuana of Africa." But the city has seen tremendous change in recent years, and there's a fresh can-do spirit in the air. The town is as Moroccan as ever...yet more enjoyable and less stressful.
