We felt like we had a very good exposure to several areas of Great Britain, the culture and the history. Our guide, Yorick, was outstanding. He kept us informed and entertained on the bus rides and at the various destinations. Other guides were also very good. Without the informative guides we would have missed so much at all of the locations. The balance between provided meals and those we purchased was good. The amount of free time to explore on our own or to simply rest was good.

This was my 11th Rick Steves tour and among my very favorites! Guide Bill was a fantastic leader and in general, the local guides were top-notch. The tour had the perfect balance of nature, history, physical activity, and culture, perfect for those who get tired of seeing too many churches or being drilled down on the history lessons. The amount of free time we had to explore on our own was plentiful (a plus!), and I liked that the included meals were ethnically diverse (not just British).

The tour provided a variety of English and Welsh experiences with historical contexts. We visited multiple castles, manor houses, fortifications, stone circles, gardens, museums cathedrals and churches. The trip made British literature and history classes come alive. Each stay on the tour was unique and special and the pacing of the tour allowed time to be present, just not passing through.

The tour covered a lot of area, and allowed us to experience different regions of England, and Wales. Along with the traditional site seeing of cathedrals and historic areas, we were able to get out and take some walks in the area and see more open spaces. I always appreciate the free time built into these tours too. The places we stay are always well located and comfortable. It so nice having a full size bus to spread out on.

We traveled with a group of interesting and interested tour members, who were kind, witty, and on-time. Over the course of the tour we spent time in small towns, cities, and London with a variety of modes of transport. Jack, the coach pilot, and Bill got us where we needed to go smoothly and efficiently, so that we could get on to the next experience. The variety of experiences were wonderfully sensory, with a great balance of indoors and outdoors, old (really old) and new.

"My wow moment was flying my kite in Crow Hill Park in Keswick, with Derwentwater at the base of the hill, Cat Bells in the distance, and the sky filled with John Constable-esque clouds. The moment was extended with a stop at a nearby cafe for cream tea and scones. I appreciated the flexiblity to be in just the right place at the right time to do an activity that was meaningful to me."

As always, the tour guide was outstanding. Roy provided great detail into the history and prehistory of the sites that we saw. This is certainly not our guide's fault, but we could have left out Oxford and spent more time in the Coxwolds. I didn't really feel that we saw what I expected. Also, is there any way to tone down the tour itinerary so that we don't have to get up at 6:30 AM every morning?

First Rick Steve's tour and first group tour. I liked having my transportation and hotels arranged for me. Our guide, Roy, was so knowledgable and added a great deal to our understanding of where we were and what we were seeing. Our itinerary was well balanced between museums/cathedrals and outdoor experiences.

Great tour at a great time of year. I enjoyed the cooler spring weather. Loved the green of the countryside and countless sheep, especially the lambs. It was all completely bucolic! The guide, Roy, was fantastic; really appreciated his knowledge of history and archaeology as we toured prehistoric and Roman British sites. This was my 8th RS tour and a worthwhile experience.

"Avesbury stone circles, Hadrian's Wall, and the York Castle Museum were all wow moments. Another wow moment: In my daily count of dogs (yes, I did that), seeing 100+ dogs in Keswick!!! I love how the English love thier dogs! It was a very happy insight into English culture."

The tour combined a number or group experiences and opportunities to explore independently in a thoughtful coordinated way. This was our first conducted group tour. I feel it provided a good way to visit sites and have experiences that were topical and I might not have traveling independently.

I loved everything we did and everywhere we went. I enjoyed the castles, mansions, gardens and historical sites. The food was delicious at all the restaurants . I would say that there was not enough time at each place but it was a good overview of the highlights of the country and all the more reason to return. Bill Higgs was helpful, attentive and friendly guide. Craig was an excellent driver.

Even though the weather was a bit chilly and we had rain for a bit of the tour, we had a wonderful experience with Bill as our tour guide. Our fellow travelers were great and we connected with several others to enhance our experience. Bill is a great guide with lots of information and so calm, even in the face of something unexpected happening. He made the trip the best.

"Blenheim Palace and gardens was my "wow" moment. The Palace was set up in an easy to see manner. The Churchill exhibit was a nice touch. And although it was the beginning of autumn, the gardens were a joy to visit."

This tour took us to places we might not have experienced on our own. For example, our visit with Welsh hill farmer, Gareth Wyn Jones, was very special and opened our eyes to consider carefully the sources of our food supply and the effects our choices have on the environment. We loved the tips our tour guide, Paul Guest, gave us in each city and town we visited. It was also good that we had enough time to explore on our own. He threw in some extra stops like the cemetery Churchill

The antiquity and historical significance resonates in Hadrian's Wall, Glastonbury, Castlerigg Stone Circle, and pretty much the entirety of London, York and Bath. Ways of life that once thrived are still embodied in Wales and Northern England - and we say a few! You never wanted to look away for fear of missing the natural beauty of Cumbria and Northumberland. And in every way, the people we encountered on our tour matched the richness of the land and history.

"So many 'wow' moments from which to choose. But, the most impactful was Westminster Abbey. I didn't expect how moved I would be from the collected items, the dedications to royalty, politicians and artists. A particular favorite experience was the prayer offered while we were there. The whole experience was stunning."

England in 14 Days was our 9th RS Tour. We have come to enjoy well-planned itineraries with great guides and enthusiastic travelers to share all the fun experiences. This tour was definitely much slower paced than others we've been on. Our guide, Robert, was super knowledgeable. Charlotte, our bus driver, was a pro at maneuvering our bus in some very tight areas.

Overall, this was a fantastic tour. This was not my selection but my wives to do an England tour. Needless to say, I was not disappointed at all. In fact, I loved it way more than I expected to. What I keep going back to is that I was not uncomfortable at all communicating with the locals. I speak English and so do they so talking and looking at directions was a breeze.

"My favorite WOW moment was when we went to York. I fell in love with the town. The architecture was beautiful, being able to walk the walls built in the 13th-14th century, the food was great, getting lost in the small streets. I certainly could have spent several more days in York."

The tour was great and would have been outstanding except for the weather which I realize was not in the tours control but does impact the enjoyment of the tour. I liked the fact that we visited a variety of types of places for stately homes, stone circles, roman ruins to cathedrals.

"Strangely enough my wow moment was a small thing. I liked how the guides of the two cathedrals we visited pointed out the unique carvings that had been done hundreds of years ago by craftsmen wanting to leave there mark on the project."

This was our 4th Rick Steves tour but not our favorite. This is not the fault of anyone in particular. Our guide Liz and our driver David were both excellent. Liz in particular had to deal with several challenging situations and came through like the pro she is. Challenges: Virus (not Covid) spread through group, weather was colder/rainier than forecast, breakfasts were redundant and for us, there were way too many castles, cathedrals, and abbeys- more variety would have been good

" Sheep farm was excellent and we really enjoyed the Cotswolds Folk Musicians. As a history person, I was excited to see Hadrians Wall. We did come away feeling that we had a better understanding of England and Wales and enjoyed the people in both areas. "

My friend and I had a fabulous trip on this tour.Our guide, Liz, was an absolutely an amazing guide with a great sense of humor and knowledge about where we were. She had good rapport with all the tour members and gave us tips on what to look for, or background historical information to make the most of each visit. Liz handled emergencies well and she was able to reschedule a tour when it was cancelled at the last minute by another venue.

"There were many special moments, but my favorite was in Wales. I loved Caenarvofon Castle because I had wanted to see it for years. It didn't disappoint!We had adequate time to explore the castle, town and have a pub lunch. A wonderful day!"

I wondered whether a tour of England would live up to the experiences I had on other Rick Steves tours, my main concern being whether England, as a more familiar culture than, say, France or Italy would be as interesting. I'm happy to report it ranked right up there with those other great experiences. There were so many fascinating and beautiful places and people. Tour guide Liz and driver David were both professional and full of fun. Food options were great.

The tour is a great introduction to England and Wales, the people, foods, history, culture and beauty. It was a worthwhile trip, and one we would recommend for anyone interested in England and Wales with limited exposure to the two countries. It was a nice mix of history, natural beauty, different sized towns, and culture. Our guide, Jeanie was excellent and provided good insight into Britain yesterday and today with many “behind the scene” facts and her broad and deep knowledge.

We found the tour to be educational, fun, and appropriately paced. We have independently traveled all over Europe, but this was our first organized tour. Our guide Jeanie shared so much history, appropriate cheekiness, and great organizational skills. The local guides were also excellent. The pace made sense - visit a site, ride the bus a couple hours, visit the next location. We covered a lot of England without feeling “bussed out”. Several of the hotels and food were sub-standard.

I have done other tours with other companies, plus I have experienced planning our own trips. This vacation was so easy in regards to being able to know and trust those who planned this trip that it would bring us in touch with real people and special places. I felt like we experienced the real England, and came away with a better understanding of England’s history and its people. We didn’t just see England, we felt it. We experienced it.

"We had so many wow moments! So many beautiful Cathedrals, picturesque ruins, quaint little villages, amazing guides. The ah-ha moment of discovering the garden where Beatrice Potter was inspired to write Peter Cottontail. But possibly the one thing that will linger the longest in my heart was the talented sheep dog and the sheep farmer with his sense of humor, overlooking the beauty of the area, along with the plight of all farmers around the world. We had a great guide named Deborah. She was caring and careful. She created picnics and snacks to keep us going. We had nice places to stay and the meals provided were good. The additional guides were very interesting and added more color to their specific locations.Deborah was patient with my husband who I reahad a tendency to be standing and talking on the bus when he should have been sitting down

This was our first bus tour as well as our first Rick Steves tour. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the tour. The pace was not overly physically challenging, the tour guide Deborah was excellent from beginning to end. There was a nice mix of group activities and individual time to make the tour our own adventure. I would highly recommend this tour of the Best of England.

"My favourite wow moment, while we had many, was our time in London seeing the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, taking a boat tour on the Thames and seeing the fantastic city sites along the way, the night life of the theatre district on Saturday, St Paul’s Cathedral and the view from the top, and visiting the Churchill War Rooms, all kept me pinching myself to believe I was actually there!"

"Definitely our experience with the sheep farmer, Gareth. This was not a sheep herding demonstration but about the importance of sustainable farming and how it affects our climate and planet. He is also quite the character and made it so interesting. Using our volunteers, he showed us not just what the dog does but the actions of the humans in herding. I was even able to help hand sheer a sheep! Never would have expected that! I continue to follow Gareth and his sheep farming adventures on FB! "

Every day of the tour was filled with wow moments. Robert, our tour guide always made every day exciting because of picnics, adventures, and various surprises not even listed on the itinerary I also liked how Robert provided us with historical information throughout our tour. While viewing and exploring these exciting places the history really helped to connect the moment. The meals provided on the Best of England tour were also fabulous. Every breakfast was unbelievable and delicious too.

"It was so exciting exploring all the smaller villages and particularly Wales and the Lake District. There were many cathedrals, minsters, and abbey ruins to see on this trip too. I enjoyed the scenic drives to these places while stopping at great palaces and castles along the way to our next destination. Overall, our tour experience was above ad beyond. The bus was very clean and comfortable with a very competent driver. Our tour guide was quite knowledgeable and always thinking ahead for our daily schedules. Bill kept us informed, feeding us English tid bits of information and music along with small English comfort foods. Bill was always approachable, down to earth and had a smile for all.

Thiis was our first Rick Steves tour, although we had used his guidebooks for 5 other countires. This trip was outstanding, with great hotels, good food, and many special experiences that we would neve get on our own. The guide, Debra, was extremely knowledgeable and a good communicator.

My tour was absolutely amazing! I can’t imagine ever traveling to Europe again unless it is on a Rick Steves Tour. We saw the most wonderful and varied places with so much information packed in at each stop along the tour. Robert was clearly well educated on all things England and was open to questions and discussions outside the script of the tour. The only negative thing from the tour was the quality of many of the hotels was below expectations and below what I have experienced on multiple past Rick Steves tours.

Our tour guide Robert was excellent! I learned so much about each site we visited and I loved the in depth history he provided. It took me back to what was going on in that castle or why that wall was erected way back then. Life as it was then and life today given that history. The miss for me, hiking suitcases up lots of stairs at every overnight - the no porter/no elevator policy for authenticity. Had porters been hired to handle suitcases, the sweet Inn authenticity would remain intact.

The Best of England tour was truly the BEST! we originally were planning our own self-guided tour, but that invokes the thoughts of what do we want to see and how long to stay, and when and where to stay. Overall, our tour was very much up to Rick Steves’ standards: Hotels were good, coaches & drivers were great & our guide, Robert, was simply excellent. The “Good” rating stems from some circumstances beyond anyone’s control including weather—it was generally not-great. England was thoroughly covered, & the scenery was magnificent, although I question some of the stops as “meh” given other sites & locations which were omitted including Stonehenge, Oxford, Canterbury, Greenwich & more.

This is my third Rick Steves Tour. While the tour was fun I thought that the timing of things were a little off. Sometimes we stayed too long and other times it was too short. Our tour guide Robert was absolutely amazing and his knowledge was immense. Why did we not go to Stonehenge? It is just right outside Bath.

I loved the Best of England tour. We were fortunate to have good weather, wonderful sights to see, exposure to the country’s long history and seeing some beautiful cathedrals and castles. I learned how to navigate the fabulous Tube and train system and become friends with our touring companions. It was an experience of a lifetime.

The cities and towns revisited were all worth it The schedule was busy, our guide did a superb job of being very organized. The food at the group dinners was abundant and very well presented. "It is hard to pick just one wow moment, but one of them is when our tour guide, Deborah, took us for a walk after dinner in Kewick. The walk was about 2 miles or so, up hill. We were dying by the time we made it to the top, but we were laughing and still having fun. Then, the moment we pasted through some trees, and made it into the field, the scenery was completely breath-taking! Every moment of the hike became worth it. It was stunning!"

I enjoyed this tour very much. It was a nice combination of sights: gardens, churches, archeological sites, and even a few castles. I do think, as usual, that 2-night stops are not long enough, especially when bounded by travel days. Deborah, our guide, was very good, as was our bus driver Tony. I loved the way they worked together, choosing the best routes and experiences for us.

"There were many wonderful moments, but I was gobsmacked by Glastonbury Abbey. For some reason, the remaining ruins showed me how grand, how huge, the abbey had been, back in the 10th - 14th centuries. Liz is an amazing guide. High energy and with a group as large as ours that is a real plus. She was very creative in responding to changes beyond her control. Example visit to Churchills grave On a personal note I was the only participant with celiac disease and she was proactive in meeting my needs. She yanked the plate out from under me a couple of times when the serving wasn’t gluten free David our bus driver is highly competent, quite delightful and works well with Liz

I really enjoyed the overview of England, particularly Bath and Keswick. Not having to change hotels every night was also a plus. We had a good group; no problems. But most important we had a great guide in Liz Boardman and Dave the bus driver. They were terrific at logistics, changing plans when something didn’t work out (Blenheim not open) and making the rides interesting. My one complaint was the lack of breakfast choice at Henrietta hotel. I don’t want to eat eggs every day.

I had never been to the UK before and felt like I got a great overview of England and a glimpse of Wales as well. I cannot say enough good things about our guide, Liz Boardman. The group was very congenial, if a bit large with 25. We were really on the move and packed a lot into the 14 tour days.

Our family had a great time. Robert, our guide, was wonderful - so much information & insight about what we saw. A LOT is packed into this tour. SO much history! Overall the tour of England was well paced with much to learn and do countered with rest and exploring time. Our tour guide, Robert, has a wonderful calm demeanor that trickles down to the rest of the group. All the tour members were well organized and punctual for departure times. "The Roman Baths in Bath! The theme of the different civilizations who have occupied Britain runs throughout the tour and it was bookended nicely by starting in Bath and ending in York/London. The site in Bath is so well preserved and they have curated a wonderful visitor experience. One can almost hear the citizens of Aqua Sulis relaxing in the warm waters. So incredible to see that they also enjoyed ice baths and hot saunas! People don't really change, do they?"

The tour was efficiently run and covered most of the sights and activities in the tour description. Wet, cold weather caused cancellation of the Cotswolds walk and the York local guide tour. Our guide and driver were very professional and competent. The visit to Welsh sheep farmer Gareth Wyn Jones did not meet expectations. The sheep dog demo was very short, and he spent a lot of time promoting himself, ending with a merchandise pitch - this is not supposed to happen on a Rick Steves tour.

The Best of England tour was everything I hoped it would be and more. Our guide, Paul, was organized, knowledgeable, kind and helpful to all of us. Our tour group consisted of interesting, congenial, co-operative travelers which greatly enhanced the overall experience for me. Our accommodations were mostly lovely with the exception of Henrietta House in Bath which I did not enjoy as much as the others.

Our overall experience was excellent. The tour guide was very good - knowledgeable and effective, with an appreciated sense of humor. Local guides were also quite effective and enjoyable. Riding on the bus made for some longer days, but the drive was usually broken up to visit a local attraction, such as Blenheim Palace. Hotels were centrally located and charming. We had mostly nice weather, except for in the Lake District, but we were still able to walk around the town.

The tour was well-organized and included a good variety of activities. Although all the activities were enjoyable, the overall schedule was too busy at times. Opting out of an activity is not an option on bus days. Some of the places we stayed felt like "bedroom" stops. Perhaps a day free of activity in Keswick would be a solution.

Where to start? David was a fantastic tour leader and as I think about this trip a few days later, it's like remembering a dream. The group jelled, and we all left at the end with hugs all 'round. Flawless planning and all my expectations were more than met.

The trip was great on every level with the exception of the crowds in London, and wishing we had an extra day in York, and The Lake District. David Willet was outstanding as our tour leader. I can't even comprehend his knowledge base. And our fellow tour members were wonderful people. No grumps in the bunch!

The tour was well organized. It had a variety of enjoyable adventures, exploring the lush country side, visiting historical sites in large cities and small towns and tasting the local cuisine. Our guide David and coach driver Craig were knowledgeable, friendly and sincerely concerned for the welfare and happiness of the tour members.

"There were many "wow" moments. The visit to the Sheep farm in Whales was outstanding. Gareth and his wife Rhian were very welcoming. It was educational and fun. An important part of travel is gaining an appreciation for other cultures, ways of life, and people. Gareth is passionate about preserving and protecting the future of Hill Farmers. I believe the farm visit is a vital element of the trip and I hope it will always be included in the tour. "

The tour was just as advertised with mostly agreeable quirkiness and an appropriate level of effort for a group that was relatively healthy and fit but also well into their 60s on average.

This was my first Rick Steves tour, and it was great – a good balance of scheduled tours and free time. Roy was an excellent tour guide, sharing his historical, archeological and political knowledge. Our bus driver Charlotte was fantastic, maneuvering the bus through many tight spots and staying with us until London when a train strike prevented us from the York-London train ride.

It turns out that I actually do like history--especially when I learn it from local guides and experts and experiences in the places where it happened. After 14 days of travel through some of the most iconic places in England, I have a deeper understanding of the history, culture, and even geography of the country than I ever thought I could have. Our guides were topnotch, and the range of experiences was perfect.

"The Pencil Museum in Keswick. Saw it on a video and in the Rick Steves tour book so really wanted to visit. Did and was awed by the giant pencil, a behemoth of graphite and wood Wondered if all the pencils I'd gone through in my life would add up to It. Not your usual museum! Enjoyed learning about something (pencils) that you don't usually think about. Keswick itself was beautiful and enjoyed the boat ride on the lake and walking around the town."

Incredible! We visited so many wonderful historical sites and great places. I discovered new parts of England and Wales. I learned so much! Our knowledgeable and helpful Rick Steves' guide Yorick was amazing. We had fantastic local guides (especially Albert in York). We had great local experiences. The hotels were charming. Our tour group had fun together! I loved the history and the many wonderful castles/cathedrals/locations we visited. Everything was amazing and exceeded my expectations.

"Climbing to the top of a tower at Caernarfon Castle in Wales with another member of the tour group. Our group toured the castle with a local guide, and then the two of us went exploring on our own. We climbed up one of the towers, met a Welsh family on one of the landings and had a wonderful conversation. We continued climbing up the ancient stairs to the top of the tower and were rewarded with an amazing view! I had felt the history and met local people in true "Rick Steves'" fashion! "

Our Best of England trip was more than I expected. It was an incredible experience. Kudos to RS for putting the 2 week itinerary together, circling England and with a pass through Wales. Our group of 23 saw so much. A highlight of the trip was Yorick our RS host and tour guide. He was a weath of knowledge, going beyond what one would expect to explain complicated British history as well as the current state of affairs in the country. This was a 5-star trip for sure.

This was my first Rick Steves tour and I absolutely loved it. It was the perfect balance of scheduled tours and personal time. The hotels were nice and homey and we were treated very well by all the staff. I also enjoyed the food, every dinner was wonderful! Bill was a wonderful tour guide and made sure to check in with each of us. I also loved the tour guides at each location. They really made history come alive! Shout out to our bus driver Ian, he was able to navigate some tough conditions!

Everyday there was a new experience, a new "best" moment. Lots of good food, laughs and soaking in the English countryside and lifestyle. It took me 50 years to return to England for a visit and it was everything I'd hoped for.

The best weather of our tour was the first few days. Despite the rain, we had a great experience. We had enough free time to explore on our own--shops, walks, museums--and organized activities that got us to the best and most interesting places. We arrived at each location in the late afternoon and were guided on a brief orientation walk of the area close to the hotel. It was wonderful to have dinner together and talk about our adventures and get advice from each other and our guide.

"I loved Wales. The weather added beauty and drama to the scenery. We got out to the hills and onto a sheep farm where we learned about the history, traditions, and best practices from a family with ancient ties to the land. It was great. David, the guide, was superb and a wonderful group of fellow travelers. We were busy, saw and learned a lot, enjoyed the insights provided by guides, made good use of our free time. I appreciated that the first part of the tour was in smaller cities and the countryside of England and Wales and that the end was in London. The coach was comfortable has had a good, personable driver. Appreciated info on transportation and things to do during free time.

"My wow moment was York Minster. I have seen many historical monuments, cathedrals etc, but the English have maintained this cathedral well. I absolutely loved the enormous amount of light filled painted glass windows. Best ever! David was always on task providing excellent information and charm.
