Daring Girls ("Daring") empowers young Tanzanian girls to take control of their future by preparing them for university and to lead positive social change in their communities. Our donations help over 4,000 young girls gain leadership and mentoring skills by learning how to solve environmental and health problems both at the local level in the Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions of Tanzania and at schools throughout Kenya, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Why They're Climate Smart
Young women in Tanzania are taught to believe they are not equal to their male counterparts, but Daring — by fostering each girl's understanding of the interconnectivity between the environment and their personal and community well-being — gives young women the confidence and skills to reach their personal potential through their Kisa project. In the past, Kisa scholars have planted trees, improved water safety and quality, educated villagers on climate-smart water filtration methods, taught local farmers how to increase their harvest and best protect their crops from local wildlife, and mentored younger students on conservation, proper waste disposal, and the basics of vegetable gardening.
Why They Get Our Continued Support
Each year, African girls — working in groups — design and complete more than 40 projects aimed at improving community and environmental health. In so doing, they learn vital leadership skills, prepare for future employment, and contribute to meaningful, climate-smart change in their communities.
